If you are at all adept at manipulating file contents it would be fruitful to look at a small GPX file exported from BaseCamp containing both tracks and way-points in a text editor able to properly display XML files.

It may be possible, but, if not, GPSBABEL (a free program available from should be able to convert it easily. You can certainly store both way-points and track-points in the same GPX file but I do not recall being able to export CSV files from BaseCamp. Nor can one name them identically since BaseCamp uses the name as its index same name, same waypoint. Simply put, there is no way to convert track-points to way-points in BaseCamp.

Once I have worked through all the tracks and pooled every event into a list of waypoints I want to download the way points and the entire tack file as one CSV file. I am trying to convert trackpoints to waypoints but can't seem to find a way to do this.Ideally I want to be able to name several of the waypoints the same thing. but this could potentially save me days of having to manually scroll through tracks and pull out the trackpoints I need. Ideally I want to be able to name several of the waypoints the same thing. I also want to be able to name the waypoints individually. Importantly, I want it to maintain all time stamps and latitude and longitudes. Now i want to select that trackpoint on the list and convert it into a way point. i know what time the events took place, so I am able to find the specific track points which correspond to that event. At certain times during the devices deployment there were some events of interest which I would like to create a waypoint for retrospectively.

I have a series of tracks taken by a gps device. To give people some context this is what I am trying to achieve: Also, if you automatically sync your activities to Strava, be sure to discard the activity there as well.I am trying to convert trackpoints to waypoints but can't seem to find a way to do this. If you do not want to clutter your activities with these fake ones, remove the activity you just created from the Activities menu. Load the course on your device as you normally would. Save the course using an appropriate name. In the top right corner, click the little cog icon and choose Save as Course. You are shown the activity you just created. When it says ‘Import Complete’, click View Details.

You reach the menu by clicking the plus (‘+’) in the top right corner of the screen and choosing Import Data.ĭrag and drop the file you have just created into the upload box. Log in to Garmin Connect and go to the Import Data menu. Importing the GPX file with fake timestamps into Garmin Connect GPX files that just contain waypoints will need a different approach. This probably only works for GPX files that contain tracks. However, because the distance between two track points is not fixed, the reported speed in your activity will still be all over the place. The +10 part of the faketime value is the number of seconds it supposedly took you to get from one track point to the other.Garmin Connect does not allow you to import two activities with the same timestamp, to ensure that you do not accidentaly import the same activity twice.

In the example, the date is 5 July 2010 and the time is 8 PM (20:00). The faketime value contains the date and time upon which you supposedly ran this activity.

  • For different GPX files, use different faketime values.
  • Gpsbabel -i gpx -f infile.gpx -x track,faketime=f20100705200000+10 -o gpx -F outfile.gpx
